Action for Bright Children
Calgary Society

Information, support and advocacy for members and community since 1979.

Remember: A mistake is an opportunity to learn! (Unknown)

Action for Bright Children (ABC) Calgary Society is 30 years old! We began in 1979 as Parents for the Education of the Gifted and in 1982, changed our name to Action for Bright Children (CABC) Calgary Society in order to align ourselves with Alberta Associations for Bright Children ( AABC) which had begun in 1981.

ABC (Calgary) Society (or CABC as we like to call ourselves) is made up of a group of individuals with a specific interest in children demonstrating high general intelligence and/or creative abilities and talents.

CABC's aim is to promote growth of awareness, understanding and services for these children and their families. We accomplish this through meetings with feature speakers, panel discussions and through special programs for children and families.

We invite parents, teachers, schools and homeschoolers to become members of Action for Bright Children Calgary Society. For more information on how to become a member, please click on Membership Information in the blue box.

This year the Action for Bright Children Society celebrates its 30th year of service to the Gifted community.
To mark this special milestone we wish to honor the memory of Jo-Anne Koch and Michael C.Pyryt.
Jo-Anne Koch was a founder and driving force of ABC Charter Public School and Michael C. Pyryt worked tirelessly in his position as Director at the Centre for Gifted Education at the University of Calgary.
ABC Society proposes to honor these educators and champions by bringing forward an initiative to connect teachers and parents via Video Conferencing with University faculty and with outstanding teachers experienced in teaching gifted students. Offerings will be customized to meet your needs.

Those schools or groups that have a special area of interest or need can contact the ABC Society via the "Contact Us" link at left, and we will be happy to answer questions and explore possibilities for Professional Development/Information Sessions for your school/group via Video Conferencing.

Our entire fund raising efforts for the coming year will be directed toward this initiative. We think that Jo-Anne and Michael would be in agreement that this is a timely and effective way to get the knowledge out to where it can help the gifted learner in their particular setting.

Tax receipts will be issued for donations. Once we reach the $1,000 non-business donation level we will be eligible to participate in the community spirit program created by the Alberta government. We welcome and thank you for your questions and support.
